ABOUT Power Dancing and Wayne

I use a specially programmed Permobil Chairman power wheel chair with the seat elevator fully raised so I can dance at partner height. The computer is programmed to be much more responsive to match the music. I do ballroom dancing with temporarily able bodied partners. It is interesting in the mixers when I get a new partner. They arn't sure how to dance with a wheel chair but get a big smile after 30 seconds. I have only danced once with another power wheel chair.

I believe I am unique in the world dancing with an elevated chair so my arms are at standing partner height. The chair has front wheel drive and small rear wheels so is quite compact on the floor and not running over feet. Dancing is very hard on the chair particularly on batteries, seat elevator, and motors. (Don't try this with other elevated power wheel chairs that may be less stable).

I have been dancing about 4 years and am getting quite proficient. I was blessed with good rhythm and have George Gershwin programmed into my soul. My mother practiced piano every night after putting me to bed from birth.

I am 67 years old and have Becker's Muscular Dystrophy.
